Prawit beats clock, submits watch report

Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwon submitted a clarification statement on his luxury watch collection to the National anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) Thursday just before the deadline expired.

NACC secretary-general Worawit Sookboon said last night that the deputy prime minister had submitted the statement, but he had yet to examine it.

Mr Worawit refused to give any more details.

Gen Prawit was also tight-lipped yesterday when asked by a reporter about the issue.

A source close to the NACC earlier said the panel is divided over the case and was waiting for Gen Prawit to submit his clarification.

According to the source, some panel members want to summon him while others feel this is unnecessary at this stage.

The committee is expected to decide on whether to summon him once it has examined the statement.

Yesterday was the latest deadline, following a series of deadlines for Gen Prawit to hand over a written statement on the luxury timepieces worth a total of 39.5 million baht.
