NAGPUR: Former vice-president of Vidarbha Cricket Association (VCA) Prashant Vaidya, who was a part of the outgoing executive committee whose tenure came to an end last week, is back in the association in his favourite position as Cricket Administration and Development Committee (CADC) chairman.
According to the Justice Lodha reforms, any executive committee member must go into a cooling off period of three years after spending two consecutive terms in office. As a result, Vaidya did not fight the VCA elections.
A twist in the story came a couple of days ago when the newly-elected body led by Adwait Manohar decided in a meeting to bring Vaidya back as CADC chief.
The former India pacer, Vaidya, was instrumental in developing the game across Vidarbha during his two three-year terms as vice president and CADC chief. Former VCA coach Chandrakant Pandit, under whom Vidarbha won the Ranji Trophy twice, had credited Vaidya for his work vision and ability to change Vidarbha's mindset.
When Vaidya took charge as CADC chairman in 2016-17, Vidarbha didn't have any trophies in their kitty. "Vaidya was the reason we came to the decision of bringing Pandit as VCA coach and you know how that decision changed history," said a source.
