Prankster changes police car's horn to play William Tell Overture

Footage shows the moment a cop car’s horn was changed by a prankster to blare out Rossini's William Tell Overture to bemused motorists. Officers from the Central Motorway Police Group (CMPG) tweeted a video of the horn playing Rossini’s classic while on patrol.

They said: “Whilst on a [road] closure my colleague used the horn, think someone has been messing around with our settings. I'll have a word with our prep shop to get it sorted. #StaySafeStayHealthy #RoadSafety #sunshine.”

The tweet, sent to the force’s 53,500 followers, quickly went viral after it was posted on Sunday (10/7) afternoon and clocked up more than 28,000 views. You can hear the new horn sound in the tweet below.

One user said: “I’m launching a campaign to replace police sirens with the William Tell Overture. Either that or the Benny Hill theme tune for foot chases!”

Mark Locke said: “Wouldn't that be classed under noise disturbance in a built up area? Just curious. Cool though.”

Lucy wrote: “I guess someone will be on duty when you find out who changed the settings!!”

Stuart Baillie said: “You need that fixed for when you are removing the closure to get people ready to follow you off in convoy...”

Martin added: “Too funny! #HonkHonk”

Meanwhile Jane Salisbury said: “Thank you officers for giving me an earworm this is now living in my head. I can’t get the tune out!!”
