'Prank' blamed for rumours that new sex shop was coming to town

The owners of a chain of adult stores have had to "disappoint" residents of a town after rumours circulated that one of their shops was opening in a new retail unit. One of the managing directors of Pulse and Cocktails adult stores has moved to quash the chatter.

Talk started after signs appeared at the unit in Darfield, South Yorkshire, saying that a new sex shop was opening. The somewhat homemade signs were taped to the door of the newly built units, claiming that there was an "adult store coming soon".

The poster featured the phone number of Pulse and Cocktails adult stores - leading residents to speculate that the sign was legitimate. However, Graham Kidd, managing director of Pulse and Cocktails, said the chain had no plans to open a branch at the unit, reports YorkshireLive.

In a statement, Mr Kidd said: “It has been brought to our attention someone has put a sign on an empty shop window in Darfield, implying we are opening a Pulse and Cocktails store. We can categorically confirm this is nothing to do with Pulse and Cocktails and is clearly a prank.

“Sorry to disappoint Darfield if you were looking forward to a local Pulse and Cocktails. We would be delighted to welcome anyone from the area at one of our South Yorkshire stores.”

Barnsley Council said it was not aware of a Pulse and Cocktails store opening at the site and no licensing application had been received.
