An Android mobile phone was found from former Janata Dal (Secular) MP Prajwal Revanna during a Central Crime Branch (CCB) raid at Parappana Agrahara Central Prison on Tuesday. Prison and Correctional Services DGP Alok Kumar confirmed this on Wednesday. Revanna, the son of JD(S) MLA H D Revanna, is serving a prison sentence in connection with rape cases.
CCB Conducts Raid On High-Profile Prisoners
According to Kumar, the CCB carried out searches targeting high-profile inmates at the prison. The operation continued for around four to five hours.
"Yesterday afternoon, a raid was conducted by CCB on all the high-profile prisoners. An Android phone has been seized from Prajwal Revanna's possession," Kumar said.
Another inmate, identified as Prathap Rai, was also found carrying a mobile phone during the search.
Cases Registered Under Prisons Act
A case has been filed against both Revanna and Rai at Parappana Agrahara Jail under Section 42 of the Prisons Act. The provision deals with prohibited items being brought into or taken out of prison, unauthorised communication with inmates and violations of prison rules.
Authorities are now reviewing CCTV footage and gathering additional information before issuing notices and deciding on further action.
Prison Officials Face Action
Following a report from DIG South, the concerned Assistant Superintendent has been suspended. A show-cause notice has also been issued to the Superintendent of Bengaluru Central Prison.
"A detailed enquiry is being conducted into this incident," Kumar said.
He added that the search did not uncover any other prohibited or contraband items.
Prajwal Revanna's Rape Conviction
Revanna, the grandson of former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda, was convicted by the Special Court for People's Representatives in August 2025 in a rape case involving a house-help at a farmhouse in Holenarasipura, Hassan district.
The court sentenced him to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 10 lakh, with Rs 7 lakh ordered as compensation for the survivor.
The former JD(S) leader also faces three other rape cases, which are still pending trial.
