Praise heaped on 'absolutely fantastic' St Pauls Carnival 2019 after thousands sing and dance in sun

Thousands of Bristol residents celebrated St Pauls Carnival yesterday - and many took to social media to express their love for the event.

Organisers have already , with dozens of colourful pictures backing up that verdict.

A number of Twitter users have paid tribute to the efforts of those who helped co-ordinate the celebration of African Caribbean culture, while others offered snapshots of their favourite moments.

The fun began in earnest at noon when a procession of around 1,000 people started strutting their stuff along the parade route.

A wide range of skills were on display - including dance and musical performances - as the groups embraced the party spirit during the five-hour march.

Many revellers kept the fun going well into the evening by attending various after-parties.

And while there was some mess left the morning after, the organisers promised they were hard at work to make the area spotless.

Last year's carnival was the 50th, after a three-year hiatus, but this year's event was treated with equal reverence by attendees - some of whom bumped into the odd celebrity.

The event next year.

Twitter user Steve Carnovale was among the thrilled spectators. He said: "The St Pauls Carnival was absolutely fantastic. Loved every minute."

The organisers are hoping that people's enjoyment will translate into donations as effort starts going in to next year's version amid financial difficulties.

It cost around £500,000 to stage the event this year, organisers said, but less than half of that sum came from sponsors, with the rest relying on the public's generosity.
