Praise for police after doling out swift punishment for troublesome youths

There was widespread praise for the way police dealt with a group of glass-smashing kids.

The incident happened in St Helens yesterday evening, when officers were diverted from dealing with emergency call-outs to reports of a number of children smashing glass and strewing it across a car park.

When police arrived at the scene at Birchley Street car park in the town centre, they detained the three children, who were aged 11 and 12.

They and their parents ordered them to clean up the mindless mess they had created.

These were some of the reactions we received.

Angela Hamer said: "Great work by the police and parents, hope the kids have learned a lesson."

Ellen Hives said: "Made up they were caught in action, parents do need to take responsibility of their children, so good on the police & parents, well done."

Ian Jay said: "This is exactly the way to deal with this kind of thing. And if they ever do similar again then get them to clean up twice as much until it sinks in."

Tucco said: "In most cases 11 to 12 year olds do not think of consequences and are probably not the worst kids about.

"It's important for the parents to make them sort their own mess and make them realise what they have done is wrong.

"Too many parents not interested in what their kids are doing or where they are."
