Praise for children who hid 'knife' in trees after finding it in park

Police officers have praised a group of kids who found a 'knife' in a local park and hid it so nobody would get hurt.

The group of four children found what appeared to be a folding lock knife in a park in Middleton yesterday, police said.

While waiting for officers to arrive, they hid it under a pile of branches near some trees.

They told officers they did this to make sure that none of the other children at the park could hurt themselves with it.

The 'knife' turned out to be a folding saw, but police have praised the children for their actions and said 'their parents should be proud'.

An officer posted pictures of the saw on the GMP Middleton Facebook page, and wrote: "Yesterday we had a report that four young children had found a folding lock knife in a park whilst out playing.

"They directed officers to a clearing in the trees where they had hidden the knife under a pile of branches so no others children could hurt themselves with it.

"Thankfully, but they were not to know, it turned out to be a folding saw most likely dropped by a Council gardener.

"That said, as you can see from the photos this still could be dangerous and hurt somebody."

"Well done and thank you to the children, their parents should be proud of them."
