Praise for £1.65 kitchen tip which can save cash on your cuppas

With soaring costs for everything from food to fuel anything that can save cash is worth looking at. And with around 100 million cups of tea downed in the UK every day that is one area to see if there are savings to be made.

Now shoppers are praising one item which costs just £1.65 and which can save cash on your cuppas. For getting the best out of your kettle can help save money which is always welcome in these cash-strapped times.

As the nation marks National Tea Day on Thursday it could be the perfect time to give the kettle a spring clean. And while it will not only leave it looking fresh it can also help give it a longer life, according to the Manchester Evening News.

Descaling your kettle can get rid of the chalky white build-up, which can end up in your drink. But it will also make it more efficient and save money on wasted electricity.

Oust All Purpose Descaler costs £1.65 for three sachets at Tesco and Sainsbury’s, or £2.95 at Amazon. The cleaning product has racked up nearly 10,000 five star reviews on Amazon, praised for being ‘quick and easy’.

Dot was one of the five star reviewers who labelled it 'fab' saying it "works every time". Gem posted: "This stuff worked miracles on my super limescaled kettle. I was in two minds to throw it out or keep it but I tried this and all I can say is WOW!!!"

The descaler is said to restore small household appliances like kettles and irons in just 10 minutes. Sophie Herrmann, a spokesperson at Oust, explained how descaling your kettle can help you save money when making a cuppa.

She said: “Having limescale in your kettle is a common issue and affects around 60 per cent of the UK. Once hard water is heated, it creates a chalky off-white crust called limescale.

“Limescale build-up in kettles slows down their efficiency so they will use more energy to boil the same amount of water. Descale your kettle and restore your appliance in eight minutes using Oust All Purpose Descaler, which removes limescale debris on the internal coils of the kettle and maintains shorter boil times. If you live in a hard water area, descale every three months, and every six months in soft water areas.”

Sophie also recommends not overfilling your kettle, only using as much water as you need when you’re making tea or coffee to help reduce energy usage.
