Praise as Perth Bridge man is talked down by police officers

Police officers have been praised for their response to an incident on Perth Bridge on Friday.

Officers were called to the bridge due to concerns for a man’s safety.

A number of police units attended the scene along with search and rescue crews from the fire service on Friday, April 19 at around 4pm.

Police officers closed the busy Perth crossing as they spoke to the man on the bridge.

The closure caused lengthy tailbacks with one eyewitness saying via social media that the traffic was “madness”.

However, the police officers managed to help resolve the situation and the bridge was then reopened at around 4.30pm.

A spokesperson on behalf of Police Scotland, commenting on the incident, said: “Police Scotland attended at the Perth Bridge on Friday afternoon, April 19, after concerns were raised for a man standing on the parapet.

“The man eventually came down at the request of officers and was taken for medical treatment.”

An eyewitness posting on social media said: “Thank God the officers managed to talk him down.

“It was so emotional driving past knowing someone was so desperate.

“I hope he gets the help he needs to change his life for the better.

“Well done to all the officers involved, it can’t be easy to be faced with that situation.”
