Practical Magic 2 gets autumn 2026 release date

Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock to reprise roles in Practical Magic 2 (Landmark Media/Alamy) -

Warner Bros has announced a release date of September 18, 2026 for Practical Magic 2, the anticipated sequel to the 1998 movie starring Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman.

The stars are set to reprise their roles as Sally Owens (Bullock) and Gillian Owens (Kidman), witch sisters who are determined to fight off a curse that kills the men they are in love with. The original movie was based on a 1995 novel by Alice Hoffman and directed by Griffin Dunne.

Details of this film’s plot have yet to be released.

Practical Magic had a disappointing reception when it first came out. While it opened at No 1 at the box office, it didn’t break even on its budget.

“’Practical Magic’ is too scary for children and too childish for adults. Who was it made for?” wrote film critic Robert Ebert.

However, the film would gain a cult following years after. Warner Bros. attempted to run a prequel series “Rules of Magic” on HBO, but it was eventually scrapped.

Practical Magic 2 will be directed by Susanne Bier from a screenplay written by Akiva Goldsman, who co-wrote the first movie. The move is expected to be based on a later section of Hoffman’s Practical Magic book series, although this has not been confirmed.

Since the 1998 film, Bullock has won an Oscar and a Golden Globe award for her performance in The Blind Side. She has also starred in films including Miss Congeniality and The Proposal.

Meanwhile, Kidman has won an Oscar for her performance as Virgina Woolf in ‘The Hours,’ alongside six Golden Globes, two Emmy awards and a BAFTA for films including To Die For and Moulin Rouge!
