PPRP, Pheu Thai neck-and-neck in pre-vote Bangkok Poll

The Palang Pracharath (PPRP) and Pheu Thai parties were closely matched in an opinion survey taken by Bangkok Poll in the month prior to Sunday's election and released after polls closed on Sunday.

The survey showed PPRP and Pheu Thai received a similar proportion of votes -- 25% -- followed by the Future Forward and Democrat parties.

In the preference for prime minister, current Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, who represented PPRP, had a substantial lead over Khunying Sudarat Keyuraphan of Pheu Thai: 28.7% to 20.6%.

The poll by Bangkok University canvassed the opinions of 10,062 eligible voters between Feb 20-March 20 and the result was released after all polling places closed on Sunday.

The poll results contrasted sharply with an exit poll by Super Poll released shortly after 5pm, which showed Pheu Thai winning 163 votes compared to PPRP's 96.
