People came together in the pouring rain to lift rubbish from Kilmarnock’s streets.
Seventeen residents took part in the New Farm Loch litter pick.
The group spent an hour-and-a-half scooping up eyesore trash and filled 20 bags.
They discovered a lot of gloves and masks during the clean-up and urged people to bin personal protective equipment (PPE).
Local councillor Barry Douglas said: “We had a great turnout despite the weather.
“The amount of litter was fairly bad in some places, such as around the shops.
“It is a shame as a lot of it was recyclable but it is better than it lying around the streets.”
He continued: “People have made comments that the place looks tidier.”
Cllr Douglas thanked the volunteers and the Co-op for donating bottles of water.
New Farm Loch community council member Linda Hamilton said: “I was absolutely soaked but it was a worthwhile and needed job.
“We got comments from people saying ‘you shouldn’t be doing that, it is the council’s job’. As a community council we have a duty to make our area as nice as we can.”
Ms Hamilton said there is now a big difference in how the roadsides look in the area.
