A powerful earthquake struck Kumamoto Prefecture on Saturday at about 2:16 p.m.
According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, the earthquake was felt most strongly in Nagomi in the prefecture, where a lower 5 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale of 7 was observed.
The focus of the magnitude-4.4 earthquake was about 10 kilometers below the surface.
No tsunami warning has been issued.
A measurement of 4 was observed in Yamaga and Gyokuto, also in the prefecture.
