Power worker who died on job was 'one of the good guys'

An energy worker who died in an incident while on assignment has been named locally as 32-year-old Runcorn man Jamie Evans.

Emergency services were called to Bridle Hey on Bishops Wood in Nantwich at around 1.35pm on Thursday.

Police and paramedics including an air ambulance attended but sadly Mr Evans died at the scene.

His employer SP Energy Networks has confirmed the death of a colleague in Nantwich on Thursday.

Guy Jefferson, the company’s customer service director, said colleagues’ thoughts were with Mr Evans’s family at this time and support was being provided to other staff.

Mr Evans’s LinkedIn profile described his role as a cable jointer.

Cheshire police said officers were called to the scene at around 1.45pm, and the matter had been referred to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).

A force spokesman said a 32-year-old man from Runcorn died at the scene.

An HSE spokesperson said the agency was conducting a joint investigation with the police, with the constabulary having "primacy" in the probe.

An inquest is due to be opened tomorrow.

Social media users have expressed sadness over the tragedy.

One Facebook user said: “He was one of the good guys.”

Another described Mr Evans as “such a nice person”.

One reader and resident said: “So sad, prayers for all family x friends Amen xxxx.”

In a statement to the ECHO, Guy Jefferson from SP Energy Networks said: "We’re saddened to confirm the death of an SP Energy Networks colleague working in the Nantwich area on Thursday afternoon.

“Our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time and support is being provided to colleagues.

“The health and safety of our team is a priority for us and a full investigation into the incident is under way.

“It’s therefore inappropriate to comment further at this time.”
