Power's failure 'burns in the guts': Koch

Club president David Koch says Port Adelaide will emerge stronger from another AFL finals defeat. (AAP)

Port Adelaide chairman David Koch says the fallout from his AFL club's preliminary final flop is a brutal time.

Koch, speaking at the club's best and fairest award on Thursday night, says there's no way of "cushioning the devastation" at the bitter end to their season.

Port were trounced by the Western Bulldogs by 71 points - the second consecutive season the Power have lost a home preliminary final.

"The heartbreaking six-point loss to Richmond last year, to the thumping loss in the hands of the Bulldogs this year - it burns in all of our guts," Koch said.

"We offer no excuses for our performance ... we were smacked in the face and reminded in the preliminary final of just where we are in the harshest possible way.

"The club will review every part of our season and the preliminary performance, believe me, and ensure that we learn from it - as hard as that will be."

Koch said despite the failure, there was no need for wholesale changes to Port's football program or playing list.

"There are no quick fixes, there are no short cuts to success in this competition," he said.

"Winning takes courage, courage to believe in our plan and our people and that is exactly what we will be doing.

"The players reviews have been completed and the analysis of our season will continue over coming weeks.

"It's brutal time for all, believe me, inside the club.

"The only thing that matters is what we do now and we get better.

""We don't need to dramatically change our program but we will take the opportunity now to change in the areas the coaches identify that we need to improve further in 2022."

Koch, speaking during the function in Adelaide via video link from Sydney, said Port "never, ever give up".

"We get up and we go again," he said.

"Yes there will be the critics, yes there will be naysayers, we understand that - there always are.

"We will embrace the journey ... we will persist and persist and persist.

"And this group will win our next premiership. I know it."

The Power's best and fairest winner will be announced later Thursday night with Brownlow medallist Ollie Wines expected to claim the award.
