Power poll roundup: the Browns take a humbling tumble

Tuesday is NFL Power Poll day around the national media. It’s not as tasty or fun as Taco Tuesday, and this week’s polls are stuffed full of some rotten tomatoes for the Cleveland Browns after their humiliating loss at home to the Tennessee Titans in Week 1.

At USA TODAY, the team plummeted from the fringe of the top 10 to the bottom 10. After starting at No. 11, the Browns are now 22nd. The commentary pulled no punches,

Systemic failure with all three phases flopping in what should be a loud wake-up call. Recalibration needs to start with better O-line play.

Doug Farrar at Touchdown Wire was not quite as down on Cleveland, but he also docked them for the dismal opener. The Browns are at No. 20 on Farrar’s list. At least they’re better than Pittsburgh, which sits No. 23 after getting shellacked by the Patriots on national television.

The Browns still sit at No. 17 over at The Athletic, down from No. 12. There was a similar drop at Sports Illustrated, with the Browns falling from 13th to 19th.

Many criticized the pollsters at NFL.com for starting the Browns at No. 15. The “reality check” the Titans gave Cleveland dropped the Browns to No. 21 in their weekly update.
