Power outages after fibre optic cables are damaged by digger taken at Broxden

Fibre optic cables in Perth were damaged when a mechanical digger was used to dig up holes in waste ground in Perth.

The bizarre incident in an area between the McDonald’s and Travel Lodge at Broxden, caused service outages in the area and cost thousands of pounds to repair.

The digger had been taken from where it was parked nearby then returned.

Officers at Police Scotland are currently investigating the incident, which happened between 11pm and 11.10pm on Sunday, October 10.

A police spokesperson said: “This area is well used by dog walkers at all hours of the day.

“If you saw anything suspicious in this area around the relevant time, please call 101 or speak to any police officer.

“Also, information can be given anonymously through CrimeStoppers on 0800 555 111. Our reference is incident 1035 of October 11.”
