Power has been restored in Bristol city centre

Power has been restored at hundreds of homes and businesses which were left without electricity this evening.

Royal Marriott Bristol, the Watershed and Zaza Bazaar are just some of the high-profile venues affected by tonight's (September 9) outage which largely affected Bristol city centre.

Electricity distributor Western Power said 380 buildings in the BS1 area were initially affected.

However some properties in Easton, St George, Redland, Cotham and St Andrew’s also experienced power going off.

Eerie video footage of customers walking around Zaza Bazaar in darkness has been sent to Bristol Live.

And reports from the restaurant suggest diners were given free meals.

Officials at the Watershed have said that all of tonight's films have been cancelled.

A spokesperson for Western Power Distribution tweeted to say the majority of properties have now been reconnected.

They said: "We are currently fault finding in the #Bristol #BS5 #BS6 #BS7 & surrounding areas. Customers in the surrounding areas may see their power going off and on. Apologies for the disruption there.

"I'm sorry the fault is in BS1 so you will also be affected by the switching. We do have the majority of customers back on so hopefully you won't see any further interruptions."

And the company's website shows all power cuts in the area have been resolved.
