Power 5 Quarterback Making Midseason Position Switch to Tight End, per Report

After a mixed performance in five games for Pitt this season, Panthers quarterback Phil Jurkovec appears primed to try something new.

Jurkovec is making a midseason position switch from quarterback to tight end, according to a Thursday evening report from Noah Hiles of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Per Hiles, Jurkovec informed teammates of the change Wednesday morning and began running routes with the other tight ends a day later.

In five games under center this season, Jurkovec has completed 50.9 percent of his passes for 818 yards with six touchdown passes and three interceptions. Pitt is 1-4 with losses to CincinnatiWest VirginiaNorth Carolina and Virginia TechLouisvilleNotre DameFlorida State and Duke still loom on the schedule.

This is Jurkovec’s sixth collegiate season, following two years with the Fighting Irish and a three-year stint at Boston College.

The Panthers are scheduled are scheduled to play host to the Cardinals the evening of Oct. 14 following a bye week.
