Poundland unveils £1 engagement ring for men for leap year and Valentine's Day

Poundland is selling a £1 engagement ring for men in a bid to encourage women to propose this leap year.

The retailer's so-called Man Bands will be rolled out across their UK's stores ahead of Valentine's Day and February 29.

The tongue-in-cheek marketing for the rings encourages potential suitors to ‘"take the leap and do the asking...Because he might never get around to it!!"

It comes after the store released its so-called Bling Ring, of which more than 20,000 were sold.

The full collection includes a host of romantic gifts, as well as adults only "banter" gifts and cards "guaranteed to raise an eyebrow or two".

The trend for male engagement rings has been on the rise since the start of 2019 with the increase in same-sex marriages, and leap year proposals becoming more popular than ever.

A Poundland spokesman said: “At the start of a new decade the Man Band is the perfect way for women to take control of their destiny and for men to show off their love status and enjoy the engagement limelight for a change.

“The success of the Bling Ring last year proves that the Poundland proposal is definitely the way to do it in 2020 and at only £1 why wait another four years to get down on one knee."
