Poundland trialling new home delivery service in UK so you can order bargains online

Poundland is trialling a new home delivery service - but for now it's only for certain customers.

The trial is currently only available to 18,000 workers and “selected guests” after quietly being launched in February.

Over 2,000 products are available to order for home delivery as part of the scheme, with a former Poundland store in Cannock, Staffordshire, being used to pick orders.

This is the first time Poundland has made its bargain products available to buy online.

The discounter has also said it will trial click and collect, although it’s not clear if it has already started doing this.

Poundland has been working on building its digital presence since July last year as part of a huge transformation programme.

The store chain said the pilot would be opened up to the public in due course.

Poundland hasn't explained how it decided which customers would take part in the trial, or whether it is based on people who are near to its Cannock store.

The Mirror has asked for more information and if there are additional charges attached to the service.

A Poundland spokesperson said: "The launch of a pilot online service is just one part of our exciting transformation plans, offering customers new ranges and new services."

David Jinks MILT, head of consumer research at Parcel Hero, said: “Poundland was forced to mothball 120 of its stores last year because of the impact of Covid.

“The pandemic has taken its toll on our town centres and there’s no going back.

“Poundland has belatedly woken up and smelled its discounted coffee. Although the initial trial is low-key, it is taking e-commerce seriously.”
