Poundland to add cost of living sections in 300 stores in bid to rival ASDA, Aldi, Lidl, Tesco and Morrisons

High street giant Poundland has announced plans to add new sections to 300 of its stores as Brits continue to struggle through the cost of living crisis. Poundland is adding the sections in a bid to take on major supermarkets like ASDA, Aldi, Lidl, Tesco and Morrisons.

The changes will see more Poundland stores getting sections which include budget frozen food, clothing and homeware. All items will be sold at a low price to help those struggling to afford necessities during the cost of living crisis.

The changes are set to be rolled out between now and September 2023. Poundland customers can expect new ranges in between 275 and 300 more stores.

Poundland's initiative will see more chilled and frozen food, PEP&CO clothing and home departments in store. More than 350 stores have already had Project Diamond makeovers in the last three years.

This has meant the introduction of chilled and frozen food to the store, as well as more PEP&CO clothing (Poundland's clothing brand) and home departments. But as of today, Poundland has announced further to be made to the rest of its stores.

The hope of this change is to mitigate the effects of the cost of living crisis and soaring inflation, bringing more value to customers' shopping experiences. Another way Poundland has done this is by increasing the number of products sold for the iconic namesake £1 since June of this year.

It also hopes to create another way of shopping, as customers will be able to purchase chilled and frozen foods, as well as health and beauty items, entertainment, DIY and stationery goods. In widening its scope, Poundland hopes to become a stronger alternative to supermarket giants like ASDA, Aldi, Lidl, Tesco, M&S, Sainsbury's and Morrisons.

The bargain retailer has unveiled that the next 28 stores due for a revamp will introduce a wide range of chilled and frozen food to more customers in England, Scotland and Wales. This includes some stores already under Project Diamond in need of a "re-sparkle".

Customers can look forward to these changes being made in November or December of this year, reports the Express.

Tim Bettley, Poundland’s commercial director, commented on the changes made to stores. He stated: "Our ambition is to offer more value in more places through opening, relocating and extending new stores and accelerating the rollout of Project Diamond so that customers can find more of what they need close to home.

"We’re working hard to extend our ranges in new categories such as chilled and frozen food and clothing and to constantly select the items that give customers value for money at a time when they need it the most.”
