Poundland slammed for 'sexist' t-shirts for young girls

Poundland has sparked fury among shoppers over Euro 2020 girls' t-shirts sold in store.

The budget retailer shared an image of it's t-shirt offering ahead of Scotland's clash with England last week on their official Facebook page.

The tops had slogans which read 'future WAG' and 'goal digger', Manchester Evening News reports.

Poundland's post read: "Get goal-ready for this game.

"What are your score predictions?"

But followers, rather than leaving predictions in the comments, blasted the brand for the slogans.

"What the hell is this sexist nonsense?" fumed one.

"Poundland, do you have any women, or men with daughters, on your product purchasing or marketing team?

"If so, they should be ashamed of themselves."

Another shopper said: "What a horrible horrible message to be giving to women and girls . . . it’s 2021 you know!"

"2021 and this is still what we get?" a third echoed.

A fourth said: "You need to change that future wag to future baller.

"What century are you in Poundland?

"Pathetic."

Others, however, were more understanding.

"Surely I'm not the only one that isn't offended by these. It's just a bit of fun, if you don't like them then don't buy them," a comment read.

Another said: "The amount of people offended over a t-shirt on here is crazy."

"Nothing wrong being a WAG in fact you women are demoralising women by slating them . . . look into these women’s net worth and businesses they do pretty well for themselves and are self sufficient.

"So they married a successful man good on them," a third argued.

A Poundland spokesperson told the Manchester Evening News that the clothing range wasn't a new addition to the store, adding: "It’s stock that was available during the 2018 World Cup in Russia and while they’ve been popular, we appreciate the feedback."
