Poundland shoppers say £4 perfume ‘smells identical’ to Dior and lasts ‘hours’

High street budget retailer Poundland has sent perfume fans into a frenzy after one savvy fragrance fan noticed that one of their £4 sprays smelled ‘identical’ to her favourite scent. The shopper spotted the ‘bargain’ in her local store and ‘couldn’t actually believe’ how good it was.

The customer, called Jen Smith, shared her find with a community of deal hunters on the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK Facebook page, which has racked up over 1,600 likes and more than 400 comments since Monday.

Jen shared a photo of the affordable spritz, called Mystery Pour Femme Insignia, claiming it smells just like her ‘absolute fave’ Dior Hypnotic Poison.

She wrote: “Went into Poundland earlier for a nosey and came across this in the Valentine section. I thought I would smell it for a laugh as they had a tester bottle out. Thinking it would smell like dog water but also gave it a try as a lot of you like Poundland perfumes.

“I couldn't actually believe it! It smells identical to my absolute fav Dior Hypnotic Poison and when I say it smells identical I mean it! The amount of times I smell dupes and they smell nothing like them but my god this does! For £4 as well it's a reet bargain!”

The Poundland fragrance costs £4 for a 100ml bottle, while Dior’s luxury perfume comes in at a much more expensive £77 for 50ml, meaning you’d need to spend £152 for the same volume of perfume. As such, some fragrance fanatics could save up to £148 a bottle by switching to the ‘dupe’.

Some shoppers say that ‘dupe’ perfumes don’t last as long a the real deal, but hours after first posting, Jen returned with an update in the comments, adding: “It's been 3.5 hours since I sprayed it and I can still smell it! Honestly I'm gobsmacked about how freaking amazing this is! Wish I bought another.”

And she really will wish she’d bought another, as shoppers across the country are scrambling to find it in store.

One said: “Off to Poundland we go!” While another added: “No way, thanks I'm defo gonna give this a try!,” with a third writing: “I've been wearing my Hypnotic a lot lately. Gonna pick a few of these up and save me some money!!!”

A fourth commented: “Poison is my all time favourite and I always got a bottle in my perfume caddy thanks for the heads up.”

And a fifth said: “Ooo this is my favourite ever got the feel thing but only wear it on special occasions but need this to wear everyday

The original Dior Hypnotic Poison is quite a fruity fragrance with top notes if apricot, plum and coconut, heart notes of tuberose, jasmine, lily-of-the-valley, rose, rosewood and caraway, and base notes of sandalwood, almond, vanilla and musk.

If Jen is right and the Poundland perfume really does smell similar, it could save a fortune in fragrance - even if you only keep it in the car as a spare!
