Another major high street store is to close in an Ayrshire town, it has been confirmed today.
Poundland on Ayr High Street will not reopen when coronavirus lockdown restrictions are eased.
Bosses of the bargain shop confirmed they will not be renewing the lease on the store.
The firm have expressed "sadness" at having to close the store which is another blow to Ayr town centre.
A spokesperson for Poundland said: "While we’re sad to be closing our High Street, Ayr, store on Saturday, April 3, we’ll still be offering customers amazing value nearby in Ayr Central Shopping Centre.
"Unfortunately, the lease is expiring on the High Street store. It goes without saying, when we close a store, we always work hard to look after colleagues directly affected."
One staff member shared an emotional post on Facebook after serving customers for 12 years in the town centre.
They said: "It is with a heavy heart I tell you the sad news that Poundland in the high street will remain closed as our lease is up on the building .
"I will miss all my we regulars old and new I've watched folk grow up from kids at school to having their own kids over the 12 years."
Last year Poundland placed the High Street store into hibernation amidst the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic.
The closure of the Ayr High Street store strikes another blow to Ayr's High Street.
Last month Ayrshire Live revealed that the Kyle Centre was to shut its doors.
Bosses of the much loved shopping mall said the decision to close was "not taken lightly".
Debenhams at Ayr Central have also closed for good as has H&M adjacent at the shopping centre on Kyle Street.
The Poundland at Ayr Central will reopen when lockdown restrictions are eased next month.
