Poundland are selling £1 engagement rings you can pop the question with

When it comes to getting engaged, many people spend thousands of pounds on a sparkly rock, with the average cost of a ring being £6,300 (2.6 times the average monthly salary).

That's a lot of money, but the lucky lady has to wear it on her finger till death do you part, so you might as well get her something that looks good, right?

But what if you can't afford to splash the cash on it?

Well for those wanting to get engaged on a budget, you could always drop by Poundland.

Yep, the high street retailer is selling £1 engagement rings which you can pop the question to your loved one with - and the best part is they've got rings for men and women.

They have rings for men and women (PA)

The store have a range of different coloured 'bling rings' which come in faux diamond, faux ruby, faux topaz and one gold coloured option.

And as well as the decorative ones for the ladies, there are also faux silver bands for the men.

That's because as well as Valentine's Day approaching, this year is also a Leap Year, a time when women traditionally have taken the reigns and popped the question to their man.

The rings are seen as a 'standby' until you can afford to get something a little nicer.

Pictures of the ring were shared on the Facebook group, Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK - much to the amusement of members.

One woman replied to the post, tagging her boyfriend and writing: "Could this be your lucky year?!"

Another joked: "Finally it's going to happen there's a ring in our budget."

However not everyone was quite as keen, with someone else saying: "Never in a million years!"

A spokesperson for Poundland told The Sun they came up with the idea as "the perfect way for women to take control of their destiny and for men to show off their love status and enjoy the engagement limelight for a change!"

They added: "The Poundland proposal is definitely the way to do it in 2020; and at only £1 why wait another four years to get down on one knee!"
