Poundland is changing its prices - so everything is no longer £1

Poundland is set to launch permanent product ranges priced at under £1 for the first time, it has been revealed.

The move is said to be the latest stage in the family-favourite store’s shift from operating as a ‘ single price retailer’ - which will pave the way for more products in high demand with customers.

Perhaps more controversially, the budget high-street retailer will also be trialling products priced above £1.

A pilot scheme is currently being tested across stores in the Midlands, where items such as Colgate Toothpaste and Napolina Passata are being sold for 75p.

The pilot is also experimenting with selling ranges priced at £1.50, £3 and £4, with brands such as Aussie Shampoo, Elvive Nutrigloss and John West tuna included.

It is believed that the pilot will only affect a quarter of products in store, with around three-quarters remaining at the staple price of £1.

The store started selling products priced at £2 and £5 back in 2017 – a move which proved successful with shoppers.

Speaking about the changes, Barry Williams, Managing Director of Poundland, said: "We promise customers amazing value and we are committed to fulfilling that promise on the widest range of items.

“While three quarters of the products we offer will still be £1, it's important we look to broaden our ranges elsewhere, whether above or below £1.

“Our customers are among the savviest in the country. We know that and it's why we're moving at the pace they dictate to become the simple price retailer they want us to be.”
