At nearly 8,000 square feet, the new store has all of the most up-to-date Poundland initiatives, including PEP&CO clothing and homeware.

Poundland at Durham Arnison also becomes only the second store in the region to offer chilled and frozen food as part of project Diamond Ice.

The only other store is at Consett, also in County Durham.

Poundland’s retail and transformation director, Austin Cooke, said: “The Arnison Centre is a great location for our new Durham store and a welcome addition to our network of stores across County Durham including the Durham Riverwalk store in the city.

Poundland opened its first store 31 years ago in Burton-upon-Trent, Staffordshire, and now has more than 850 stores in the the UK and the Republic of Ireland.
