Poundland announces closure of Scottish location amid restructuring

MAJOR retailer Poundland has announced the closure of another store in Scotland.

This comes as the brand pulls the shutters down on 12 locations across the UK, including those in Blackburn, Kettering and Taunton.

Reconfirming the store's closure programme, Poundland’s retail director, Darren MacDonald, said: “When a store nearby closes, we understand how disappointing that is for customers, but nevertheless  look forward to welcoming them to another Poundland store in the future.

“Work is underway with colleagues through a formal consultation process in stores scheduled to close, exploring any suitable alternative roles.”

A raft of stores are set to close across the UK (Image: Getty Images) The Poundland store at Irvine's Rivergate Shopping Centre was originally set to close on August 31, but because of "operational reasons," this has been pushed back to September 14.

Other Scottish stores closing down, which were previously announced by the company, include Port Glasgow (August 10), Broxburn (August 17) and Perth (August 17).

7. Irvine Unit 16B, Rivergate Shopping Centre, Irvine, KA12 8EH

8. Kettering Unit 1, 31-32 The Mall, Newlands Shopping Centre, Kettering, NN16 8JL

9. Omagh 9-11 Main Street Shopping Centre, High Street, Omagh, BT78 1BA
