Potential roadblock in Jones' alleged sex abuse case

The looming high-profile sexual abuse trial of former talkback king Alan Jones could be put on pause, a court has been told.

The 84-year-old has pleaded not guilty to 25 charges of indecent assault and two charges of sexual touching against nine alleged victims over nearly two decades when he ruled the airwaves.

He is set to fight the allegations in a four-month-long hearing starting in August.

But preparations have been stalled by disputes over thousands of documents yet to be delivered.

Jones' lawyers previously said they have issued nearly two dozen subpoenas as they prepare to fight the allegations.

They are still awaiting "oodles of material" to be produced as a result of the requests, his barrister Gabrielle Bashir SC told Bankstown Local Court on Thursday.

The legal team was granted access to some of the material that has been served as a result of the subpoenas, with further arguments put over until May.

Depending on what information is produced at that stage, Ms Bashir indicated Jones may apply to delay the August hearing.

Jones' lawyers previously said they believe there is evidence that clears his name.

Magistrate Glenn Walsh warned lawyers against planning holidays over Christmas in case the hearing runs into January.

Jones, a former top-performing shock jock, was arrested at his home in Sydney's Circular Quay in November 2024 after an eight-month police investigation into historical sexual assault allegations.

He is accused of sexual misconduct against nine complainants between 2003 and 2020, both in private and in public places such as restaurants and at high-profile events.

Two of the alleged victims were acting as chauffeurs for the former private school teacher when he indecently assaulted them, according to prosecutors.

The charges, which Jones has claimed are "all either baseless or they distort the truth", followed his retirement from a hugely influential broadcasting career launched in 1985.

During his decades on the air, Jones became a feared interviewer who excelled at questioning leaders while dividing audiences with his outspoken views.

He worked with Sydney radio station 2UE before joining rival 2GB, where he was a long-time ratings juggernaut until 2020.

Alongside a failed tilt at politics, he also coached the Australian national men's rugby union team through some historic achievements between 1984 and 1988.
