Potential pass rush upgrade Shane Ray signs with Ravens

The Miami Dolphins addressed their outside linebacker position this past week, agreeing to terms with linebacker Nate Orchard. But considering how dire the pass rush situation is here in South Florida, many pondered if the Dolphins had additional moves up their sleeves to get a little more juice out of the group.

So far Miami seems content to stand pat. The Dolphins watched two prominent rush linebackers leave the free agent market — first Jamie Collins went home to sign with the Patriots at a team friendly rate. The latest shoe to drop? Former 1st-round selection Shane Ray agreed to terms with the Baltimore Ravens and signed to make things official yesterday.

The addition of Ray was one that would have made a ton of sense for the Dolphins — they’ve gravitated towards talented underachievers this offseason, hoping that even if they can resonate with some of their additions, they’ll get a few steals and fill a few needs.

That will be the role the Ravens now hope to play with Ray, as they look to replace the departing Terrell Suggs, who signed this offseason in Arizona.

Ray’s career struggles thus far have been a combination of the transition to the pros and injury, making him a prime breakout candidate if he’s able to stay fully healthy. Here’s hoping the Dolphins don’t have seller’s remorse when these two teams face off in Week 1 of the 2019 regular season.
