Potential pass rush boost Ziggy Ansah plans to sign in Seattle

The first day of the new free agency window was fairly uneventful — until late in the day when the first bombshell dropped. Former Detroit Lions pass rusher Ziggy Ansah is on the move, but he’s heading the wrong direction for Dolphins fans who hoped he’d bring reinforcements to Miami.

Instead, Anash is headed west — about as far west as one can go. He’ll be signing a one-year deal with the Seattle Seahawks, a move made in an effort to help replace Frank Clark. Clark, who the Seahawks dealt to Kansas City for a 2019 first round pick and a 2020 second round pick, was one of the premiere additions made by any team this offseason.

Seattle’s addition of Ansah can help bridge the gap — but it again further whittles the field of day one candidates for the Dolphins at a position of need. The same issue has arisen at right tackle, where former Cardinal and Bronco Jared Veldheer is apparently planning on signing with the New England Patriots on a one-year, $6.5M contract.

The Dolphins still have time to find upgrades, but the clock is now formally ticking on this team as the calendar flips to mid-May. Should the Dolphins hope to lock in upgrades, they’d be wise to find them now and not rely on cuts in the preseason to bear fruit.
