Potential new Charlton Athletic owner makes Swansea City, QPR, Wigan Athletic and Sunderland claim

Danish businessman Thomas Sandgaard claims Swansea City were among the clubs he looked at prior to his decision to takeover Charlton Athletic.

Sandgaard, who owns medical company Zynex Inc, is expected to become the Addicks' new owner having held positive talks with East Street Investments, who are in control of the football club, and Roland Duchatelet, who owns The Valley and Sparrows Lane training ground.

But the 62-year-old says he considered a number of different clubs - including Swansea, Queens Park Rangers, Sunderland and Wigan Athletic - to invest in before deciding to begin the process of taking charge at The Valley.

"I started using my network in England to look at what was available," he told Sky Sports.

"I looked at everything from the bottom of the Premier League to the top of League One and have had a number of good friends putting out feelers for me.

"Obviously I looked at Sunderland with an incredible history, you call a club like Queens Park Rangers and you hear that they don't really need money. People were very confused down at Swansea.

"I looked at many things. Of course I looked very closely at Wigan and all along Charlton kept looking the best opportunity.

"The entire foundation is literally perfect. You can take the club to anything you want to."

It comes after Swansea announced American businessman Jake Silverstein was appointed to the club's board of directors after making an investment in the club.

That sum was matched my Swansea's majority owners Jason Levien and Steve Kaplan which comes as a significant short-term boost for the club during what are hugely testing times.
