Adrian Peterson should get heavy workload if Derrius Guice misses time

The Washington Redskins shocked their fan base on Monday morning by announcing that running back Derrius Guice was undergoing an MRI on his right knee after suffering an injury in Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Guice, who only played 24 snaps in the game, was seemingly underused, which makes sense now that this news came out. The team is awaiting the results of the MRI until they make any decisions about his status for Week 2.

This brings us to veteran RB Adrian Peterson, who was a healthy scratch for Sunday’s game, making it the first time in his career that he has been held out of a game despite being healthy and eligible to play. The move ruffled a few feathers in the locker room, but it appears that AP will get a bigger workload if Guice is out with the injury.

It is not yet a sure thing that Guice will miss time, but NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported on Monday morning that the second-year back reinjured a knee that he previously injured in college, not the one he had surgery on last season. Until the MRI results come out, all we can do is speculate on what the Redskins backfield will look a week from now against the Dallas Cowboys.
