Potential Chargers perform well Sunday at NFL Combine

The Chargers will look long and hard at a defensive lineman this year. Even after selecting Justin Jones in the third round of the 2018 draft. The team is looking at the possibility of no Corey Liuget, Damion Square, Darius Philon, or Brandon Mebane. That is over a thousand snaps to replace in 2019. Surely one of those players will be back. Even so, there will be a defensive tackle drafted this year.

Sunday, the pool of players worked out. They were more impressive than the wide receivers, who had a great Saturday. Alabama’s Quinnen Williams stole the show. Williams is likely the best player in the draft. How proficient he already is with having played so little is what makes him impressive. Williams ran a 4.83 40 at 303 pounds. That’s nuts.

He will be long gone by the time the Chargers are on the board. That could be a potential Raiders pick. Hopefully not.

Clemson’s nose tackle Dexter Lawrence is a much talked about player that the Chargers should select. The nose tackle ran an impressive 5.05 40 yard dash at 342 pounds. Lawrence also benched 225 pounds 36 times. It was a good day for him. Ed Oliver has been mocked to the Chargers. He’s a very disruptive player that has a very high ceiling. He weighed 13 pounds heavier than listed at 287. He also jumped 36″ in the vertical which is absurd. Oliver will run his 40 at his Pro Day. Some lesser known names like Khalen Saunders and Daylon Mack ran and moved well.

The players on the edge were flying. Montez Sweat ran 4.41 at 260 pounds. Several other players cracked 4.6. When you talk about the jumps and how these guys looked on the field, it was a great day for the front four.
