Potential Carl Frampton opponent Jamel Herring reveals positive Covid-19 test

Potential Carl Frampton opponent Jamel Herring has revealed he has tested positive for Covid-19.

Herring had been scheduled to defend his WBO super-featherweight world title against Frampton in Belfast on June 13.

That was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic, but it is hoped the fight can still take place later in the year or early 2021.

Before that Herring had been due to headline a bill in Las Vegas on July 2 against Jonathan Oquendo, but that has now been postponed.

He said on Twitter: "Last week, I tested positive for COVID-19. That’s the bad news.

"The good news however is, I feel ok and have self-isolated until I receive a clean bill of health.

"My WBO Junior Lightweight world title defense against Jonathan Oquendo will be rescheduled shortly."

The retired US Marine signed off the message with 'Semper Fi' which is a Marine Corps motto.
