Potential big injury blow for Everton ahead of West Ham visit as defender misses out

Everton will be sweating on the fitness of left back Lucas Digne ahead of their visit to West Ham when the Premier League returns this weekend after the international break.

Digne, who joined the Toffees from Barcelona in the summer, picked up a thigh injury and limped out of training ahead of France's 4-1 win over Moldova on Friday night and has been ruled out of Monday's match against Iceland as well.

The 25-year-old has put in a string of impressive performances for Marco Silva's side this season as they are embroiled in a battle with the Hammers to finish seventh in the league this season.

Digne will be assessed upon his return to Merseyside but if he does miss out then it will be a major blow for Silva and Everton as the Frenchman has played in 30 games this season, scoring and creating seven goals from left back.

If he does miss out then Leighton Baines would be expected to fill the gap created by Digne's absence. The latter's excellent performances this season on Merseyside had seen him earn a recall for to the world champions squad.

As it stands, the Hammers haven't picked up any problems yet with their players away from international duty though Manuel Lanzini was mysteriously absent from Argentina's defeat to Venezuela, though Argentina have not said why he was not part of Lionel Scaloni's matchday squad for the friendly defeat on Saturday.

The Hammers take on the Toffees on Saturday evening at the London Stadium in a 5.30pm kick off under the lights in E20.
