Potential 2020 Chiefs draft prospects: Group 6

It’s Week 6 in college football and we have even more exciting prospects to watch.

I have identified over 200 prospects for the 2020 draft that I believe could be potential fits for the Kansas City Chiefs. I’ll be releasing mini scouting reports on these prospects in random groups of four up until the draft.

Check out the latest group of prospects down below:

Oklahoma DT Neville Gallimore

Gallimore has been one of the most impressive defenders in Big 12 football this season. Not only does he have tremendous strength, tossing offensive linemen around like rag dolls, but he brings incredible effort on each snap. He pursues the football with a type of relentlessness and malintent that will have 32 defensive coordinators in the NFL pounding the table for him in April.

The Ottawa, Canada native is listed at 6-feet-3 and 315 pounds. Don’t let his size fool you, though, Gallimore is extremely quick off the snap and nimble.  He also has one of the most lethal swim moves of this defensive line class and he utilizes it to his advantage often.

Every week it seems that Gallimore has a new impact play that you can marvel at. Through four games in 2019, Gallimore has eight total tackles, two tackles for loss, one sack and two forced fumbles.

Coaches at the next level will want to work with Gallimore on his pad level, sometimes he can get a little too high out of his stance. He often uses brute force to win in those situations, but he won’t be able to get away with that as often in the NFL.

If the Chiefs don’t find a way to keep Chris Jones, Gallimore is the guy that you want to replace him with. When it’s all said and done, the Chiefs might have to find a way to move up to draft him, but it’ll be worth it in the long run.

UCF CB Nevelle Clarke

Clarke is one of the more underrated cornerbacks in college football right now. He first became a starter in 2018 and recorded 13 passes defended along with two interceptions. During his redshirt senior season in 2019, Clarke has seemingly elevated his game. His eight passes defended are tied for the second-most in the FBS through five weeks of the 2019 college football season.

In addition to Clarkes’ natural ball skills, he’s been an ace in run support throughout his career. He’s unafraid to lower his pads and stick his shoulder into an oncoming ball carrier. He has six tackles for loss, a sack and 90 tackles for loss in his career at UCF.

At 6-feet-1 and 190 pounds, Clarke has ideal size and the versatility to play both inside and perimeter cornerback positions. He also has great awareness of the game around him beyond his own responsibilities. There have been more than a few times where he’s been able to bail out his teammates with a heads up play in coverage.

It’s no secret that the Chiefs need cornerback help and will look at some players in the draft. A few seasons ago they were infatuated with UCF CB Mike Hughes and Clarke is cut from the same cloth. I’d expect them to take a good hard look at this player come April.

Minnesota LB Kamal Martin

As the Chiefs continue to revamp their linebacker corp they’ll be looking at some new age 4-3 outside linebackers. Martin has been a playmaking linebacker during his entire career in Minnesota. At 6-feet-3 and 235 pounds, the former high school QB has near-prototypical size for the NFL game.

He’s fast, long-armed, rangy and possesses elite closing speed. His ability in both zone and man coverage will make him an asset to NFL teams. He’s the type of guy that can match up with a variety of players from running backs, to tight ends and even bigger slot receivers.

Over the course of his career, he’s accumulated four interceptions and five passes defended. In 2019, he’s on his way to proving that he can be a three-down linebacker in the NFL. He’s accumulated 19 total tackles in just two games this season, missing two games with a foot injury.

The Chiefs will have scouts in attendance for Minnesota’s upcoming game against Illinois. They’ll be looking at Martin, along with several other draft-eligible players on both the Gophers and the Illini.

Washington CB Myles Bryant

Bryant has been one of the best cornerbacks in the Pac 12 if not the entirety of college football this season. He’s a hard-nosed defensive back that is a willing tackler and competes at a high level on a snap-to-snap basis. He currently leads the Huskies defense in tackles with 31 total tackles. That’s not to say that he doesn’t have ball skills either, he has the second-most interceptions on the team with two.

At 5-feet-8 and 187 pounds, Bryant is likely to be deemed undersized by many evaluators. It’ll surely impact where he gets drafted in the 2020 NFL draft. The great thing about this Chiefs’ front office is that unlike other regimes, they seem willing to bet on players on-field abilities over their size.

Lost in the cornerback concerns for the Chiefs in 2019, Kendall Fuller is slated to become a free agent and his play has declined since joining the Chiefs in trade. The team could potentially be on the lookout for a new slot corner in the upcoming 2020 NFL draft and that is where Bryant has excelled throughout his career.
