Potential 2020 Chiefs draft prospects: Group 13

It’s Week 13 in college football and we have even more exciting prospects to watch.

I have identified over 200 prospects for the 2020 draft that I believe could be potential fits for the Kansas City Chiefs. I’ll be releasing mini scouting reports on these prospects in random groups of four up until the draft.

Check out the latest group of prospects down below:

Penn State DT Robert Windsor

At 6-4 and 285 pounds, Windsor is a bit of a tweener along the defensive line. He’s not quite stout enough to consistently anchor in the run game, but he plays the role of penetrator very well. His hands are already pro-ready and he has a variety of moves that he relies on to get into the backfield. He can definitely be disruptive on zone runs as offensive linemen have trouble reaching him.

Windsor brings a lot of energy to the defensive line at Penn State, seemingly setting the pace for that unit throughout the course of a game. That relentless motor and ability to motivate his teammates is something that will resonate well with coaches and evaluators at the next level.

If Kansas City finds themselves in need of an interior defensive lineman with high upside as a pass rusher, I think Windsor is a player you have to take a look at. He’ll likely be a guy who outplays his draft position on sheer effort. He has a chance to be a guy that stands out in 1-on-1 drills at the Senior Bowl in January.

Ohio State CB Shaun Wade

Wade has been the starting slot corner for the Ohio State Buckeyes during the past two seasons. I’m looking forward to seeing how he’ll handle the challenge of facing Penn State. During the 2018 season, Wade showed flashes of brilliance in coverage, however, he gave up a 93-yard touchdown against Penn State as a redshirt freshman. He’ll be looking to redeem himself from that mistake in the 2019 matchup.

Wade has only become more consistent in his second year as a starter. He has added the ability to rush the passer out of the slot with two sacks on the season. He plays real physical in run defense and understands spacing in the short passing game. You can tell that he loves competition given the way that he plays.

Listed at 6-1 and a hair under 200 pounds, Wade has the size that NFL teams will like at the position. The Kansas City Chiefs only have two cornerbacks under contract beyond 2019. You can expect they’ll look to add a few players at this position via the 2020 NFL draft. Wade is only a redshirt sophomore, so there’s no guarantee he declares for the draft. If he did, he’d be one of the few underclassmen getting early-round consideration.

Utah RB Zack Moss

Moss has been a favorite of mine since his sophomore season. He’s a decisive runner with great quickness and vision. He’s not afraid to lower the shoulder to fight through contact and can play with a bruising style too. He’s a guy that opponents aren’t going to have a fun time tackling.

At 5-10 and 215 pounds, Moss is thick with a good frame for the position. I don’t think he’ll need to add much weight to find success as a professional. Teams will want to work with him on the mental aspect of the game. Sometimes he’s guilty of trying to do too much with the ball in his hands instead of simply following his blocks and taking the easy yardage.

Moss suffered a strange knee injury in 2018 that knocked him out for most of the season. I’m not sure that he has that third gear that NFL evaluators like to tout but it seems that the knee injury didn’t slow him down. He still has enough juice to create explosive plays and be effective at the next level.

The Kansas City Chiefs will be looking to reinforce their depth at the running back position moving forward. They haven’t really found an answer at the position since releasing Kareem Hunt during the 2018 season. I’m not sure that Moss is the answer, but he could certainly be part of the equation.

Illinois LB Jake Hansen

If you’re looking for a do-everything linebacker in the 2020 NFL draft, Hansen is your guy. He can play the run, the pass and get after the quarterback. At 6-1 and 225 pounds, he won’t blow you away with measurables or athleticism, but he’s been raised to be a good football player. Hansen’s father, Shad, was a former star at the linebacker position at BYU in the early ’90s under LaVell Edwards.

Hansen is a captain for the Illini because of his on-field performance and leadership. He’s brought back Charles Tillman’s famous “Peanut Punch,” forcing fumbles at an astonishing rate. In 2019, Hansen leads the entire FBS with seven forced fumbles on the season. That’s two more than Ohio State’s dynamo pass-rusher Chase Young has in 2019. Hansen has also recovered three fumbles, showcasing great awareness for the football overall.

The Kansas City Chiefs should be looking for linebackers in the draft with Darron Lee and Reggie Ragland set to become free agents. Obviously, the BYU connection could come into play with head coach Andy Reid. I don’t expect Hansen to be a high draft choice come April, but he’s definitely worth a late-round selection.
