Pot shop in Lakeview selling chance to be at front of line on Jan. 1

For $250, you can be among the first in the state to buy legal weed Jan. 1.

Sunnyside*, a marijuana dispensary in Lakeview, said it is selling 25 “golden tickets” for $250 each. The tickets, available on the shop’s website until Monday, will allow you to reserve a spot “towards the front of the line,” the dispensary said in a written statement.

You’ll have to get up early on New Year’s Day to use it: the shop, at 3812 N. Clark St., opens at 6 a.m. And, of course, you’ll have to pay for whatever pot products you buy, although state law restricts purchases to less than 30 grams of marijuana flower, 500 milligrams of THC-infused products or 5 grams of cannabis concentrate.

The pot clinic said it will match the money raised through the sale of the tickets and donate the total, $12,500, to the nonprofit Last Prisoner Project. The Denver group pushes for the release of inmates “incarcerated for victimless cannabis offenses and help them in the post-release process to rebuild their lives through vocational training programs and employment opportunities,” Sunnyside* said.

Sunnyside* is owned by Cresco Labs, a River North-based companies that owns cannabis dispensaries around the country. The Lakeview medical marijuana clinic has operated under the name MedMar, but that will change on Jan. 1.
