Sales topped $2.2 million on the second day of legal recreational weed in Illinois — trailing first-day sales by more than a million dollars.
Although sales were down by almost a third, there were still 56,762 transactions reported Thursday, according to Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s spokeswoman Jordan Abudayyeh.
That comes out to just under $40 per sale.
The first day of legal week took in a whopping $3.2 million from 77,128 transactions. Customers stood in line for several hours or more to purchase newly legalized recreational pot.
Even on the second day, a line of customers stretched for half a block outside The Herbal Care Center at 1301 S. Western Ave. and dispensary owners in Chicago said crowds were similar to Jan. 1
Officials have not released data on tax data on the sales, but state taxes on weed products range from 10% to 25% depending on the concentration of THC.
