Postman killed in quad bike crash on the A465 was 'an amazing father'

The family of postman who died in a crash on the A465 say they have been left "absolutely heartbroken" by his sudden death. Desmond James, who was known as Des, had worked as a postman in the Cadoxton area of Neath for more than 30 years.

The 62-year-old, from Resolven, died following a crash involving a quad bike that happened between Aberdulais and Resolven at around 1.30pm on Sunday (July 2). His family released an emotional tribute through South Wales Police.

They said: "As a family we are absolutely heartbroken by the sudden death of Desmond Jones known to many as “Des”. Des was an amazing father to his two children Kelly and David a loving Grandfather an amazing step father to Scott and Kelly and also a loving husband to Amanda.

"Des was the local Postman in the Cadoxton area of Neath a job he loved for over 30 years. He will be missed so much by his three brothers Phillip, Robert and Chris and will be deeply missed by his ex-wife Julie."

The statement added: "Des was a much-loved son in law of Linda and will be sorely missed within the family and that of the local Resolven community. Many will know of Des locally as he walked his ever-faithful companion his dog Jenko who will miss him and the routine that they had.

"We as a family would like to say a massive thank you for all the kind messages and well wishes received, we are truly grateful. Des will be greatly missed by everyone, and he leaves a huge hole in our lives. RIP Des.”

South Wales Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses to the collision or anyone with information or dash cam footage to get in touch. Call 101 quoting occurrence 2300219405.
