Linda received the award in recognition of her support and fundraising, lending her voice to speak openly about living with terminal cancer and inspiring many to talk to their loved ones about dying, death and bereavement.

Attending the ceremony to receive her award was her husband Robert Tierney and son Aaron McGraw.

Aaron said: “It was a privilege to come down to London to collect this award on behalf of my wonderful Mum.

“As a family we were delighted to hear that my Mum had been nominated for the contribution she made to Marie Curie.

“In collecting the award I felt an incredible sense of pride.

“I have always been proud to have been my Mum’s son, she raised me for 32 years so I know first-hand what she is capable of, however, I am exceptionally proud to know that she has been recognised for being the person she was by a wider community.

“She would have been delighted even with her nomination. As her family we will cherish this and ensure that it takes pride of place in our home.

“Even to look at the award and say to myself ‘My Mum did that!’. Myself and my step-dad travelled back home to Scotland on the train after the ceremony like we had just won the World Cup!

“The fact that Marie Curie made such an effort in recognising people like my Mum shows what kind of organisation they are, it was a delight to be involved.”

Meredith Niles, Marie Curie’s Director of Fundraising and Engagement added: “Linda was an amazing individual and we are indebted to her and her family who have gone above and beyond for the charity.

“It was an honour to attend the Fundraising Excellence Awards to thank our valued supporters for all they do for Marie Curie and the many people and their families they have helped to support.”
