Post worker faces life in jail over drugs

A man working for Australia's postal service is facing life in prison after being charged with using his position to import drugs into NSW.

The 35-year-old subcontractor was arrested on Thursday and charged with four federal drugs offences, which carry the maximum penalty.

Police say he used his role to access parcels which he knew contained drugs because of his involvement in the drug trade, then remove the narcotics during his delivery route.

Australian Border Force officers found about 12.6 litres of liquid methamphetamine in a consignment of 210 nicotine vape bottles flown into Sydney in October.

Australian Federal Police officers then started an investigation.

A second identical package delivered into NSW was recovered.

Police say the second consignment was allegedly tampered with by the subcontractor, who removed about 60 per cent of its contents before returning it to authorities.

The AFP searched the man's Parramatta home in December, seizing phones and burner SIM card holders allegedly relating to the drug importation.

The man did not apply for bail. He will appear in court again on February 4.
