Post Office to close several branches within weeks - see list of locations

The Post Office is closing a handful of high street branches within the next few weeks in a blow for hundreds of customers.

At the same time, the postal giant will also relocate some sites.

The Post office will close its Rosehearty branch in Aberdeenshire on July 22, while its Eaton site near Norwich will also pull down the shutters, although a date has not been announced yet.

It comes after its store in Haselmere, Surrey, shut for good on May 31, and its Braintree Masefield site shut on January 31.

Elsewhere, the Post Office in West Mersea High Street in Colchester will close on June 9 before being relocated to Mersea Island Supermarket on June 14.

The Post Office in Gilstead Lane, Bingley, will shut on July 10 before moving to nearby Ferncliffe Road on July 11.

The delivery office based within Soham Post Office is also due to close in July, with the service being moved to Ely delivery office.

A spokesperson said: "On many occasions a branch will close and sometimes just a few days later re-open at a new location under a new Postmaster.

"This is the most challenging economic climate retailers have faced in decades and we fully recognise the pressures Postmasters face to keep their branch open and serve their local community."

The Post Office is also still opening new sites - having recently welcomed customers to branches in Shropshire, West Yorkshire, Port Glasgow and London.

The Post Office has more than 11,500 sites across the country - but the company isn't the only business to confirm closures over the last few months.

Another two Iceland stores will be shutting for good this month - starting with its Hitchin branch which will close its doors on June 10.

The next store affected is the Beccles branch in Suffolk, which is set to close on June 17.

Poundland is shutting another UK store this month, with the high street retailer saying goodbye to its Cumbernauld shop in North Lanarkshire on June 11.

Shoezone sites in Crewe, Hinckley, Beccles, Edinburgh, and the Isle of Wight will be closing this year.

Marks and Spencer is planning to close ten more stores, with another ten set to relocate.

The supermarket has shared that it had plans to open 18 new stores over the next year.
