Post office ripped open as thieves snatch ATM in dramatic east London raid

Robbers smashed into a post office in east London and stole a cash machine in a dramatic overnight raid in east London.

Video footage of the incident seen by the Standard shows three hooded men using a rope attached to a utility vehicle to haul away the ATM in the early hours of today (Tuesday).

A group of hooded men can be seen attaching the rope to part of the shop in Harold Hill, which has already been smashed open by the gang.

A pair then attach the rope to what appears to be an ATM which flies out the shop attached to the back of the vehicle, tearing part of the building away with it.

Footage of the scene shows the shop front was completely destroyed (Jason Barnes)

The group are later seen using an angle grinder to try and cut open the ATM before putting it into another vehicle.

The Metropolitan Police said they were called to reports of a burglary at around 2am to Petersfield Avenue.

Officers attended the scene and a crime scene in currently in place.

There have been no arrests and enquiries are ongoing.
