Post mortem held into death of unknown woman found in docks

A post-mortem examination was today set to be carried out as efforts to establish the identity and cause of death of a woman whose body was retrieved from Langton Dock continue.

The sad discovery was made on Monday and a large emergency services response descended on the area just before 2pm.

A number of emergency services vehicles were pictures at Langton Dock in Bootle, with others watching on as the body was recovered from the water.

Today Merseyside Police said a post-mortem examination was set to take place on Thursday to help establish the cause of the woman's death.

Efforts to identify the deceased, so family can be informed are ongoing.

Police have said the death was not being treated as suspicious and investigations are also ongoing to establish how she died.
