Post mortem examination finds woman who died near Broadmarsh Centre in Nottingham suffered head injury

An inquest into the death of a 24-year-old woman who died near the Broadmarsh Centre has opened today (Tuesday, November 24).

Laura Louise Benson, who lived in Beeston, died on September 2 this year at around 2.45am at the Broadmarsh Centre.

A cordon blocking a vehicle entrance to the Broadmarsh Centre site, off Maid Marian Way, was set up for most of the day following reports of a sudden death at the time.

Floral tributes still remain at the scene to this day.

HM assistant coroner for Nottinghamshire, Laurinda Bower, told the hearing Ms Benson had died as a result of a "head injury".

Speaking virtually from court three in the Council House at around 3pm, she said: "Her family have been made aware of today's opening and they are happy for it to take place in her absence.

"Laura Louise Benson was born on April 21, 1996, and was therefore 24 at the time of her death.

"She was a resident of Nottingham, Beeston. A post-mortem examination confirmed the cause of death as a head injury.

"I offer my deepest condolences to Miss Benson's family and her friends also."

The inquest was adjourned until a later date, pending further reports, assistant coroner Bower concluded.
