Post-Diwali Detox: Expert shares tips on how to get your body back on track

Diwali is surely one of the greatest festivals celebrated in India. From families coming together, feasting together to late-night parties and guilty indulgences, there's a lot that can feel good, but at the same time affect your body negatively.

Now that we're past the festive season, it is time to get your body back on track. And to help you do that, holistic lifestyle coach and author Luke Coutinho has just the right tip for you.

In a recent Facebook live and Instagram post, he introduces his viewers to 'simple small wins to clean up, energise, feel light, and get back on track with' one's extraordinary life.

While Coutinho says that the most powerful cleanse is 'deep sleep' and fasting, he also recommends putting together certain ingredients that can help rev up metabolism, liver, kidneys and make us feel lighter.

The plan

"We're gonna try to keep a minimum 12 hour fast. So if I have dinner and finish dinner at 7, I am not gonna eat for 12 hours - you can do 13, 14, 15, that's up to you. But for our cleanse it's a minimum 12 hour fast," Coutinho says.

According to the lifestyle coach, the first thing you should have is 250-350-400ml of warm water. He recommends adding a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar with mother culture, pinch of dry ginger powder, Ceylon cinnamon powder, a pinch of black pepper and a lemon squeezed into the solution.

Next, he recommends taking sips of this 'warm concoction,' following which he advises to have 250ml water.

Coutinho says to stay 'raw' up until lunch. But he lists down certain foods that one can eat.

- One seasonal fruit

The author-cum-lifestyle coach also talks about how 'Sattu', also called roasted gram flour or Bengal gram flour, can be a great source of protein, calcium, magnesium, and zinc.

He recommends having 6 tbsp sattu with water to prepare a shake. Add 1/2 tsp moringa powder and 1 tab raw cacao powder. Next, he says to shake it up. You have yourself a 'protein and a nutritional bomb.'

What to expect?

According to Coutinho, with this detox plan, "You're not gonna feel hungry. When it reaches lunch time, your portions are gonna be really small. By the time you've done two days of this - raw till lunch - you're gonna feel lighter, you're gonna feel cleaner, your mental focus and clarity during the day is gonna be fabulous."

Concluding the session, he also says that you can have coffee and black tea or any other form of tea, but he strictly recommends against milk and sugar.

Writing in his Instagram captions, Coutinho says, "if it suits you do it , if not don’t ….no need for drama and making a if deal of it …keep your emotional energy for more important stuff ….try one day , see how you feel , do your best that’s all …we are aiming to be raw till lunch for 5 to 7 days ….let me know how you feel."
